What a beautiful guitar this remains.. The Gibson Custom Shop 1968 Les Paul Custom is a true-to-life and historically accurate replica of the original '68 LP Custom, also known as the Black Beauty. And that nickname doesn't say a word too much. The original model, as the name suggests, was introduced in 1968. Where the original Les Paul Custom models from the '50s had a solid mahogany body, the '68 variant was fitted with a maple top on the mahogany back (just like the Standard models) giving the guitar more presence in the high end, including that delicious bite that almost every guitarist loves. In addition, the standard version of the '68 Custom Les Paul was fitted with two humbuckers (instead of three) to create a little more room for the right hand. Finally, the '68 Custom had a 14-degree headstock angle that reduced string tension—an ideal upgrade. All of these changes have been incorporated into this fantastic reissue, making this model one of the most accurate representations of the development of the famed Les Paul Custom model. Even the smallest details are correct, such as the witch-hat knobs, the Kluson Waffleback tuners, the authentic '68 neck profile that makes the guitar - especially in combination with the nitrocellulose lacquer - really feel like a product from the '60s and of course the gold hardware. One of the most charming models in the current Gibson Custom Shop lineup, and we're sure the prospective owner of this guitar will enjoy the Black Beauty for a lifetime.
