The Axess P-style bass that proves an experienced luthier makes all the difference

This P-style bass has been assembled and perfectly set up by Bob of Axess Guitars & Basses, a luthier who nowadays hardly builds complete instruments anymore and focuses on repairs and custom work. So, you don't often come across builds like this. The Aged Sherwood Green finish gives the bass a character that immediately stands out, without being flashy.

The sound of this bass revolves around the Lindy Fralin pickup: warm, full, and solid in the mix, with a beautiful balance and enough clarity to cut through well. The combination of an alder body with a maple neck and maple fretboard provides a bright, punchy tone with plenty of attack and definition. This is the classic P-sound, but with just a bit more detail and dynamics that you can expect from a hand-built bass.

The neck has a familiar C-profile with a 9.5" radius and a long 34" scale length, which gives the bass a pleasant, consistent string tension across the entire range. The Gotoh tuners ensure stable tuning, and the electronics are deliberately kept simple: one volume and one tone control. The weight of 4.04 kg is well-balanced for an alder body. The top wood is also alder, which contributes to the homogeneous, open tone.

A hand-built Axess P-style with Lindy Fralin pickup in this condition is a rare opportunity.
