The Gibson Custom Shop '61 SG Standard Cherry Red that brings the SG back to the year it all began
In 1961, Gibson changed the guitar world forever with the introduction of the SG. Thinner, lighter, and more aggressive than the Les Paul it was meant to replace, the SG was quickly embraced by the biggest names in rock: Angus Young, Tony Iommi, George Harrison, Duane Allman. The Gibson Custom Shop '61 SG Standard Cherry Red is the most accurate reproduction of that original instrument that Gibson makes, complete with all the details that make the '61 so special.
The two Custombucker Alnico III pickups deliver the authentic PAF sound of the original: open, dynamic, and full of harmonic richness. Unpotted and tuned to early 60s specifications, they respond to every nuance of your playing. The nitrocellulose VOS finish in Cherry Red gives the guitar an authentic vintage look, while the 1960 Slim Taper neck offers the fast playability that made the SG so popular.
The one-piece solid mahogany body, Indian Rosewood fretboard with cellulose nitrate Trapezoid inlays, 22 frets, ABR-1 bridge with lightweight aluminum stop bar, and Kluson Single Line Double Ring tuners are all historically correct. Nickel hardware, 500K CTS potentiometers with Black Beauty capacitors, and hand-wired electronics complete the Custom Shop level. Includes hardshell case and Certificate of Authenticity.
Cherry Red, 1960 Slim Taper, Custombuckers. The '61 SG Standard as it rolled off the line in the early 60s.
